PURPOSE
A value appraisal service is available to establish the correctly identified inventory and current retail value of Barbed Wire collections, Barbed Wire Tool collections, Planter Wire collections, and other barbed wire related collections. This service is designed to aid in estate assessment, tax preparation, and insurance requirements.

The Appraisal Service is sponsored in good faith by The Symposium and The Kansas Barbed Wire Museum.
CRITERIA AND REFERENCES
Proper identification of each item is absolutely necessary for inventory and is based on current identification publications recognized by the hobby. Retail prices of items are based on the current years Value Guide updated each January 1st. The copyrighted Value Guide is published by The Symposium annually and distributed to dealers and collectors on request. The sponsoring entities, the identification publications, and the Value Guide are widely accepted by hobby enthusiasts throughout the world.
APPRAISAL STAFF
All appraisers are known to the hobby and are knowledgeable in specific areas with the experience to properly identify the items presented.
APPRAISAL DOCUMENTS
Appraisal documents will include an approved inventory list with prices, signed by the appraiser and accompanied by the Value Guide used in the appraisal. Permanent records will also be maintained by the sponsoring entities.
Appraisals to be used for tax credit purposes must be recorded on proper I.R.S forms and be accepted by an approved 501-C, tax-exempt, non-profit organization.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING
- All items to be appraised must be examined in person by the appraiser.
- A fee will be charged for the appraisal.
- Fee to be negotiated between the customer and appraiser.
- Customarily, a flat charge per item is set initially. Additional charges are dependent on the costs of transportation of the collection to an appraisal site, or the travel costs of the appraiser.
- The appraisal service and appraisal staff are not accredited by national standards nor affiliated with other appraisal services. The sponsoring entities offer this service in the heretofore undocumented field of collecting barbed wire related memorabilia and is not responsible for any litigation or damages arising from appraisal findings.
