MEETINGS AND SHOWS
For over thirty years, barbed wire collectors have been gathering at "tail gate trading parties" and barbed wire shows to visit and trade wire specimens. For the last fifteen years, an average of twelve, two-day shows have been held each year, mostly in the mid-west.
SHOW ACTIVITIES
The main focus of these gatherings is to sell and trade specimens of barbed wire and other related items. However, almost anything imaginable can appear at a show either for sale or display.
A COLLECTOR'S SHOWCASE
Since most private collections are kept at home, the public rarely sees such groups. A wire show presents the opportunity for collectors to "show off" their collections. The shows are actually a public showcase for collectors of almost any items.
COMPETITION STIMULATES INTEREST
Collections are grouped into categories for judging. Plaques and ribbons are awarded for top collections. This competition encourages collectors to add to their collections at every chance. The competition is keen and a lot of fun.
SHOWS ARE ALSO A DEALER'S SHOWCASE
Dealers who stock barbed wire specimens, tools, and other related items use the shows to display their inventory to the public. In some ways, the barbed wire shows are "trade shows."
PARTIES, COOKOUTS, & BANQUETS
Most show formats include entertainment, food, parties, and end with an awards banquet. To avoid inclimate weather, all shows are held in the summer months.
CLUB NEWSLETTERS
Most older clubs publish quarterly newsletters telling local members the current news, and updating show schedules and other pertinent happenings. This newsletter is furnished free in the annual dues.
