The unique, one of a kind monument is located in front of The Devil's Rope Museum in McLean, Texas welcoming all who enter. Without a doubt, it is the most photographed part of the museum complex.
WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE MONUMENT?
This monument is dedicated to the impact barbed wire had on the development of the west. The old time saying of' "Barbed wire gave us control of the land, and windmills made the land habitable" is an example of this significance.
WHAT IS THE MONUMENT MADE OF?
Two huge balls of solid barbed wire, weighing over 370 pounds each, sit on top of two Kansas limestone rock posts over 125 years old. In between, stands a section of wrought iron fencing dating back to 1890.
WHERE DID THE MONUMENT ORIGINATE?
For many years, the monument stood in the front yard of Frank and Violet Smith of Keller, Texas. The couple, charter members of the Devil's Rope Museum, donated it to the museum to where it was moved and erected.

We believe it is the only monument-in the world dedicated to barbed wire whose existence is both absolutely beneficial to progress, at times cruel beyond comprehension, caused drastic changes in world-wide warfare, and yet protects our lives twenty-four hours each day.
